More Opinion’s
(blog
#3)
If I was a writer I would prefer to
write blogs because there are really no rules. The blog is based on facts but
it is up to the writer how many facts they give. The majority of the blog will be
based on the opinion of the writer. The writer doesn’t have to argue both sides
of the argument. The whole blog is about what the writer believes. If they want
to add the opposing sides argument to prove their point even more they can. This
is why I like blogs, the writer is free to do whatever they choose.
This is different from how I’m used
to writing because I’m not used to giving my opinion. Everything is fact based
and supported by facts. Growing up teachers always emphasized to never use we
or I in a sentence. When writing a blog there is a lot of we and I, because its
opinion based.
For example in New York they just
passed a controversial law that states when a baby is being born it can still
be “aborted” if the mom
doesn’t want it. I can’t fathom how this bill passed. There is a enough people
in congress in New York that thinks this is ethical. In a blog about this I
would talk about how this should be considered murder because it is a living
breathing human that is being killed. I would also talk about how unethical that
is. I wouldn’t give any facts to support the claim that it is okay to abort a
baby when its being born. (There’s always two sides to every issue.) Its hard
for me to even say that’s abortion still because it’s not, its murder. Abortion
is when the baby is still in the mother stomach but anyways, if I were to write
a formal paper I would have to state only facts for both sides of the argument
so the reader could make a choice on what they believe. I wouldn’t be able to
state that I think “aborting” a child once they are born is murder. That would
be up to the reader to decide.
An Op-Ed
article is a lot like a blog. It is based on your opinion of a topic. Just like
I could write a blog about the New York abortion law. I could also write an
Op-Ed. The difference is there is a structure to follow. The similarities are
its based on opinion. Blogs and Op-Eds are great ways to write when you would
like to write about your opinions.
I like how you compare blogs to op-eds. Ultimately, the blog is easier to write, I think, because there are literally no rules. No, you just do whatever you want. I make up rules for these blogs because I am the teacher, and that apparently is my prerogative, but the genre has no rules. On the other hand, I'm not making up rules for op-eds; those rules are made up by, I don't know, someone. And there are lots of them.
ReplyDeleteBut they definitely include opinions.
