Schedules (blog 4)
Schedules! (blog 4)
I think in order to be a successful
college student you have to have balance. You need to balance your time effectively
and accordingly. When I first started college I was really all over the place.
Time was flying by and I hadn’t done anything productive. I was so used to my
parents planning everything that I was happy to not have a plan but that didn’t
work. I realized that I need a schedule for myself. I started to schedule when
I would do my homework and when I could make time to hangout with friends because
let's be honest we all need a social life even if we do have to work and go to
school.
I also schedule one day out of the
week where I don’t have to work, go to school or do any homework. That day is
specifically for me to hang out with my friends, catch up on my shows and whatever
else I want to do as long as I don’t do homework. This helps me clear my mind.
One thing that I have to do at
least 3 times a week and I can’t miss is working out. Wither I go to the gym or
go on a hike. I have to be active. I always thought that people who went to the
gym or worked out on a weekly bases did it to have a nice body and that is part
of the reason but there’s more to it. It is also a huge stress reliever. It helps
me clear my mind and focus on what’s important. I used to kick this off my
schedule if I ran out of time but I realized that was making me more stressed
out. Working out makes me feel better about the way I look and it clears my
mind.
Manage your time accordingly. Know
yourself. If you can’t sit down and do homework for 5 hours at a time don’t
make your schedule like that. Maybe wake up, do homework, go to the gym, come
back do more homework, eat and them do more homework. Break it up. You make
your schedule to fit how you learn. If you schedule 5 hours of homework time in
a row and you know you can’t sit still for that long. Most likely you will end
up wasting most of your time.
Make sure you look at all your
class schedules weeks an advance so if you have a 5 page paper you can start 3 weeks
before its due. You start it instead of waiting till the week before when it’s
on the syllabus. Stay organized and study for every class everyday, so the information
is stored in your long term memory. If you keep information in your short term memory,
sure you will do good on the test but won’t be able to use it in the future.
Make yourself a schedule and you
will be a more successful college student. Schedules aren’t normally followed
to a T but at least you will have a guideline.
Great blog! Thank you for your input on how to be a successful college student. In the past, I would not look at my class schedule in advance and there were times that I would forget about an assignment because of that, but recently, I have been looking at the class syllabus way in advance to check for any homework that is due or any upcoming tests.

Hi Cassandra,
ReplyDeleteI can not agree with you any more!!! Schedules are everything! I am a person who sticks to her schedule and plans for the next day the night before by writing out my schedule so that I can keep myself productive and see my accomplishments. I think that this is a great advice that not everyone knows how to implement, but definitely should implement!

Totally relate to this post, I took working out almost completely out of my schedule my sophomore year, and I felt so stressed out. It wasn't until I went for a run and felt relieved that I realized how great working out is as stress relief and a confidence boost. I agree with your comment about a schedule being a guideline - it's nice to see everything you have to do(even if you don't do it in that order/at that time). Different schedules for different styles of learners is also great!
ReplyDeleteCreating schedules is also a huge thing. When I don't schedule something, I don't do it, and that took me a lot of time to figure out!
